Au pair Selecting and Matching Process

1. Pre-selecting the best candidates from the pool of au pair applicants that your Au pair agency makes available to you.
2. Identifying red flags in au pair applications, taking your family’s specific situation and needs into account.
3. Conducting phone interviews with the family’s favorite pre-selected au pairs candidates.  Setting expectations with au pair.
4. Checking au pair’s references.  Phone calls with the au pairs references to re-verify her childcare experience.  Checking on childcare skills, aptitude.  Focusing on getting a well-rounded picture of the au pair.
5. Preparing your chosen au pair.  As an independent party in the matching process, Marie is able to talk with her in ways that you, the host mom/dad, cannot.  The relationship is a volatile one before she arrives to your home.  You don’t want to ask uncomfortable questions of her that will get her upset.  Marie can set expectations with your future au pair. 
6. Pre-arrival support.  Preparing host parents for her arrival.  Advice and tips for setting up the weekly schedule. Setting up basic rules.  Advice for effective communication with au pair prior to arrival, frequency, subjects, etc.

Post-arrival support 

1. Guidance/training for host parents.  Details for good, effective communication after her arrival.  Avoiding miscommunication.  Active, hands-on support for working through some misunderstandings.  A fact:  Little bugs are not unusual to arise during the first 2 months of the match = the honeymoon phase.
2. Guidance for au pair.  Kids need boundaries,  that is a well-known fact.  Guidance for au pair  concerning how to set boundaries for the kids and to establish her authority with the kids.  Giving advice, tips and support for host parents and au pair to establish a good working relationship.  Working hand-in hand, to build a united front for the kids. 
3. Ongoing support during the program year.  Problem resolution during the au pair year.  Mediating volatile situations if they should come up. Just like a marriage, an au pair match does take some work here and there, some tweaking.  Effective communication is essential.  Marie will be by your side with advice and support.
